ChampionScott Partners is delighted to announce the appointment of Flavio Barbosa as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to Whitney University System. Whitney provides services to top universities across Latin America to assist them in expanding access to higher education through technology. Mr. Barbosa has over 15 years of global finance experience including investment banking and working as the CFO of two publicly traded companies in Brazil. He brings extensive global M&A, capital raising, and operating experience to Whitney having led teams in Latin America, North America, Europe, and China. Mr. Barbosa is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Mr. Barbosa joins Whitney from Magnesita Refractories in Sao Paolo Brazil, where he spent two and a half years as CFO and Director, Investor Relations. During his tenure, Flavio was responsible for all strategic planning and refinancing, as well as leading due diligence and negotiations for the company’s M&A efforts globally. Previously, Mr. Barbosa was CFO of Springs Global where he managed the Initial Public Offering of Springs Global’s shares in the Brazilian Stock Exchange. Earlier in Flavio’s career, he held senior roles in investment banking for companies including Citigroup, Banco Votorantim, Fleet Boston Financial and Santander Investment Securities Inc.
Mr. Barbosa earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade Federal De Minas Gerais. He received his M.A. in International Business from the University of Pennsylvania, and his MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
